Ravay Snow says that she's been an artist and a writer for her whole life.
In elementary school, she gained notoriety as one of the two kids who
were really known for being able to draw. (It was a small school.) The
other kid was her brother.
After a long career of drawing and writing for fun and doing other things
to make money, Ravay finally made the formal leap into writing and illustrating
for children in 2002. Her first effort was an award-winning picture book
called Hildegarde and the Great Green Shirt
Factory. That was also the year that she formed her own publishing
company, Snowbound Press. Her business partner?
Her brother, Jeff Snow, an animator with
DreamWorks animation.
Ravay loves Sonya and is happy to be illustrating her stories. She works
from original charcoal and colored pencil sketches that she then adds
color with her computer using PhotoShop and Illustrator programs. In addition
to drawing and painting a lot, Ravay is also at work writing and illustrating
two more picture books and a young adult fantasy novel.
Ravay has done a number of other things, including research,
playing hammered dulcimer and blues piano in various bands, and creating
beautiful stained glass windows. Like Sonya, she has a strong sense of
adventure!
