I picked up a copy of this book
by chance when I was in Denver. The attractive illustrations were the
biggest reason, but the text more than equals the illustrations. Some
childrens' books insult the intelligence of both child and adult, but
this isn't one of them. Hildegarde is packed with jokes (like the counting
sheep thing) that will appeal to both adults (at least those with a sense
of humor) and children. Hildegarde is a great character for a child, and
a good role model for adults too. I'd say she's plucky, but she's a sheep
not a chicken. Anyway, rather than stay in a dead-end job, Hildegarde
dares to follow her dreams. I'd recommend this to everyone from 4 to 40!
Don't be sheepish, buy this book!"

"This is one of the most beautifully
illustrated children's books I've ever read. Bright and vibrant are two
words I'd use to describe the book, in addition to the wonderful homage
to creativity and individualism."

“Littleton author-illustrator
Ravay Snow sets up a classic conflict between right and left-brained types,
in a story that will encourage children to take a chance on creativity.”

in The Littleton Independent, December, 2003
I love Hildegarde so much!
The pictures and story are fabulous, the colors are great, the characters
are fun, the outfits are beautiful--it's just the best! It brought me
back to my childhood of designing clothes for dolls and animals."

Lawton, Massachusetts
"As a second grade teacher
I am constantly looking for books to read to the children that are fun,
interesting, and even teach a lesson. "Hildegarde and the Great Green
Shirt Factory" is one of these books. I especially like the theme
of the book that shows you can do anything you want if you try...I highly
recommend it for elementary children of all ages."
—Martha Fleming, second grade teacher,
Broomfield, Colorado
“The kids absolutely love
the book … Emily is learning each word of each page and has told
me that Toola is her favorite sheep! Hildegarde …has found a place
in my heart and home forever! The message she gives is such a good one
and so important to remember, not only as a growing child, but many adults
can heed her advice as well!”
—Melissa Farquhar, Denver, Colorado
"The book is a treasure.”
—Phyllis McGee, Sacramento, California
